Washing Machine Not Spinning - What Is Causing The Problem?

Washing machines use water to clean clothes. The water enters through the door at the top of the machine and flows down through the washer tub where the clothes are placed. As the water passes over the clothes, soap is added to remove dirt and stains. The water then exits the washer tub and goes into the drain. If there is something wrong with the drain pipe, the water will not flow properly and the machine will not spin.

Check the Washer Drain Pump.

To check the pump, turn off the power switch and open the lid of the washer. Look inside the washer tub to see if any water is coming out of the drain hose. If no water comes out, check the drain hose itself. Make sure it isn’t clogged. If the drain hose is clogged, try unclogging it by using a plunger or other device.

Check the Washer Motor.

If there’s still no water coming out of the drain, then check the motor. You’ll need to remove the access panel on top of the washer. Remove the screws holding the cover down and lift up the cover. Then, take a flashlight and shine light into the motor compartment. If you see something stuck in the motor, use a screwdriver to dislodge it. If you’re unable to find anything stuck in the motor, then replace the washer motor

Check the Water Supply.

If the water supply is clogged, then the washer won’t spin. To fix this, turn off the power to the washer by unplugging the cord. Next, open the lid and remove the access panel. Look inside the washer to make sure there isn’t any debris blocking the drain pipe. If everything looks good, then try turning the water back on. If the washer still won’t start, then call an appliance repair technician.

Check the Drain Line.

If the water supply line is clogged, then it will cause the washer to stop spinning. To fix this, first turn off the power to your washing machine by unplugging the power cord. Then, open the door and remove the access panel located at the bottom of the unit. Remove the cover plate and check the drain hose for blockage. If everything looks good and the washer still won’t start, then call an expert appliance repair technician.

Check the Drain Pipes.

Next, check the drain pipes. You should see a small hole in the floor where the drain pipe goes through. Look inside the drain pipe to make sure there isn’t any debris blocking the drain. If the drain pipe is blocked, then you need to clean it out.
