Gas Stove Troubleshooting Tips
Gas stoves are very reliable appliances that are easy to use. But sometimes problems arise when you’re cooking on them. Here are some steps to take if you encounter trouble while using your gas stove.
If your pilot light isn’t lit, check the flame sensor. It’s located near the top of the stove. If the flame sensor isn’t working properly, it will shut off the burner.
To turn off the pilot light, open the door to the stove, then press down on the knob at the bottom of the stove. This should extinguish the pilot light.
If the burner still won’t ignite, try turning the knobs on the side of the stove. Turn them clockwise until the flame appears. Then turn them counterclockwise until the flame goes out.
A dirty flame screen will prevent the gas from igniting properly. To clean the screen, remove the glass door by lifting up on the handle. Remove the metal cover underneath the glass door. Pull off any tape holding the metal cover in place. Wipe down the inside of the glass door with a damp cloth. Replace the metal cover and replace the glass door.
If the burner filter has been clogged, the gas won’t ignite properly. You’ll need to replace the burner filter. This is a very simple process. First, turn off the gas valve at the main shutoff valve. Next, open the top vent cap. Then, unscrew the burner filter from the bottom of the stove. Finally, replace the burner filter.
