Gas Stove Troubleshooting Tips

Gas stoves come in many different sizes and shapes. Some are designed for use on a countertop while others are built into a wall. Regardless of where they’re located, all gas stoves share similar components that need to be maintained properly.

If you notice that the pilot light isn’t staying lit, there’s a good chance that the flame sensor has failed. This means that the burner is not receiving enough oxygen to burn fuel efficiently. To correct this problem, you will need to replace the flame sensor.

If the burner won’t turn on, check the pilot light first. It should stay lit when the burner is turned off. If the pilot light is out, then the burner is likely malfunctioning. You can try replacing the igniter, but if that doesn’t work, you’ll need to replace the entire burner assembly.

A steady flame is necessary for proper combustion. If the flame is flickering, unevenly burning, or not at all, there’s probably something wrong with the burners. Try cleaning the outside of the burner by removing the top panel and wiping down the exterior surfaces. If that doesn’t help, you might need to replace the entire unit.

If the pilot light isn’t lit, check the vent pipe connections. Make sure the vent pipe is connected properly to the flue. Also make sure the chimney cap is securely fastened. If the pilot light still won’t come on, try turning off the gas valve and waiting several minutes before trying again.

If the oven door won’t open, check the hinges. If the hinge pins are loose, tighten them by hand. If the hinge pins aren’t visible, use a small screwdriver to loosen them. If the hinge pins appear to be tight, remove the screws holding the hinge plates together and slide the hinge plates apart. Check the hinge pin holes for obstructions. If the hinge pins do not move freely, replace the hinge plates.
