Dishwasher Troubleshooting Tips for the Average Homeowner

Here are some helpful hints on how to keep yours running smoothly.

If there is water coming out of the drain line, check the drain hose first. It should not be clogged with hair or food particles. If the drain hose is clogged, try using a plunger to clear it. If that does not work, call a plumber.

Next, check the water level. If there is no water coming out of the drain hose, then you will need to remove the access panel under the sink. You will see a rubber gasket with a hole in it. Remove the gasket by pulling up on it. Then, pull off the access panel and take a peek inside. If there is any debris blocking the drain, then you will need a new filter.

After checking the water level, make sure that the detergent dose is correct. To do this, turn the dial to “off” and then back to “on.” If the machine starts running after turning the dial to “on,” then the dose is set correctly. If not, then you will need more detergent.

Next, remove the filter by pulling it up through the top of the door. You’ll need to use a pair of pliers to do this because the plastic clips holding the filter in place are very difficult to pry open. Once the filter has been removed, rinse it with warm soapy water and let it air dry.
